I was going to take my old portable garage down when a robin started getting upset. I watched where she was going and seen she had a nest with three eggs in the door. Guess the garage is going to stay up for awhile.
Join us as we canoe and fish our way down river. From chasing fish, to bears and moose chasing me.

Hooter The Owl
![]() |
| Hooter the Owl |
It was March 13,2013 when I was talking to Chad on the phone. He said, he seen some tuffs of hair sticking above the snow. He first thought it was bob cat in his driveway but a second look determined it was Great Horned Owl that didn't seem to be able to fly. I jumped in the truck and headed to Chad's. Trying to catch the beautiful bird was a challenge because we were worried about our fingers and he could run on the deep snow faster then we could.
Knowing he would need some professional help if he was to survive, we called the animal rescue in Sackville, N.B. Before the staff member got there, Chad and I had already named him Hooter and we were already attached to the magnificent animal. After the staff member from animal rescue arrived, the three of us were able to get him cornered and Chad with heavy gloves, managed to get hold of him. We pet him and tried to keep him calm; he did not trying to bite us or struggle away. The animal rescue put him in a box and took him to the animal shelter.
Over the next day or two we kept calling checking on him. It didn't take animal rescue long to determine he was malnutrition and started him on I.V.
A couple of days past and our attempt to save the beautiful creature was ill-fated. Hooter passed away! Yes it was ashamed. The spraying of the forest and reduced habitat is not helping matters, but but it happens all the time in nature and the hard winter challenged the survival off many animals. R.I.P Hooter for your struggles are now over!

The last 6 years
My previous fishing group fell apart since Marvin's death. Life took us separate ways, Denis C is out west and Demien is somewhere in Fredericton.
Life has it's ways of taking and giving back and fortunately I was recently given the best three fishing friends a guy could have.
Friends and co workers of 15 years namely Chad, Denis D and Aaron are blessed to share several fishing excursions a season. This year's plans are shaping up all ready. We applied for a crown waters draw and planning a 3 day canoe and fishing trip down the Cains River which is the biggest tributary of the Miramichi system.
We mostly fish the Miramichi river systems. I also take trips to my homelands in Cape Breton Nova Scotia where my mother and I fishing countless amount of days from as long back as I can remember. Moms favourite pools is Harris Pool on the Baddeck river. At certain times of year the trout fishing was good but most days we went more to enjoy the trans that the smooth flowing river put us in. Now when fishing Harris's my brothers, sisters and I all have a strong since of nostalgia and a flood of memories. These fishing memories with mother will hold me in her arms for ever. Man I miss the old girl.

Somewhere On A River Poem
I found this poem I wrote in 2007. It is about my buddy Marvin who passed away at age 35. Marvin was one funny great guy whom I had many great 3 day fishing trip with on the upper reaches of the North Branch of the Main Miramichi. With no further ado, here is the poem.
Somewhere On a River
Somewhere on a river
My mind drifts far away
Thinking of my fondest thoughts
Memories of yesterday.
Four good friends together
We laughed and worked as one
To canoe our way up river
Before we lost the sun.
We pitched our tent we made our bed
All our work was done
Laughing faces flickered by campfire light
Until the morning sun.
As time goes on things come to pass
These times once had by all
One of us four has since laid to rest
The others busy with life’s calls.
Yet when we meet we start to talk
We plan a fishing trip for three
We will surely take the other 4th guy
But only in memories
When God decides to take our youth
Will there be anyone to take our place
Or will this intimacy be forgotten
Among the human race.
There is too much to comprehend
To understand life’s twisted maze
Modern Man lives with inflated self worth
I choose to stick to my ancient ways.

Moose On The Loose
Many believe a cow moose with a calf is one of the dangerous animals in my neck of the woods. I am not sure about that but is sure scared me. I got out of the truck to get some close up pictures and walked within 50 meters of her. She got between me and the calf and put her ears back. I knew it was time for me to leave so I turn towards the truck. She started towards me as I scrambled up the bank and to the truck. My wife got scared and closed the door of the truck. Didn't take me long to reopen it and get inside. I asked my wife was she trying to collect insurance money when she closed the door?lol Ya I survived another one.Thursday, October 2, 2008
Great thoughts
The greatest achievement is selflessness. The greatest worth is self-mastery. The greatest quality is seeking to serve others. The greatest precept is continual awareness. The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything. The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways. The greatest magic is transmuting the passions. The greatest generosity is non-attachment. The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind. The greatest patience is humility. The greatest effort is not concerned with results. The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go. The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances. - Atisha ...
